Francesco Scavullo (1921–2004) was one of America's most influential fashion and celebrity photographers, known for his iconic Cosmopolitan covers and his close association with Andy Warhol and the Factory circle. In the 1980s Scavullo began silkscreening his photographic images onto canvas — directly paralleling Warhol's own practice — producing a small body of unique works of which this skull is a striking example.
